How to make slow cooker turkey chili

This really is a dump and go recipe in the truest sense! Simply put all of the ingredients into your slow cooker, give it a stir and cook it on low for 6-8 hours (or about 4 hours on high). Set it and forget it!

Can I make this dish ahead of time?

Chili is one of those dishes that gets better with time. I like to cook it the day before serving it so the flavors have time to really meld together. The beauty of making it in the slow cooker is that you can just dump all of the ingredients in at the start of the day and enjoy it that evening. No need to stir it or watch a bubbling pot. You can easily make this turkey chili several days ahead of time.

How long does slow cooker turkey chili keep?

Once it’s cooked, let the chili cool slightly and then transfer it to airtight containers. You can then either store it in the fridge for up to a week or you can freeze it for a couple of months. Reheat the chili in the microwave or on the stovetop, and if frozen let it thaw in the fridge overnight.

Top tips to make this recipe

  • This recipe is well-seasoned and full of flavor but it isn’t spicy at all. Feel free to add a pinch of cayenne pepper for some heat!
  • While prepping the recipe, mix all of the “sauce” ingredients together in the base of your slow cooker (the canned diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and herbs/spices) before adding the ground turkey.
  • Store leftovers in airtight containers in the fridge or freezer for easy meals throughout the week.
  • Keep extra canned tomatoes and beans on hand so that you can make chili anytime (all you’ll need is a pound of ground turkey!).

Looks delicious! I’ve never put uncooked ground meat in the crockpot- it really doesn’t need to be cooked? I’m intrigued!
