We’re Having a Baby!

crocheted baby pug outfit

On Friday, December 22nd I woke up, went to Dunkin Donuts for an iced coffee and then spent the morning at home—wrapping Christmas presents for Daniel, rearranging decorations, and breaking down big cardboard boxes from all the furniture we’d ordered in the past month. My mom came over at 11:30 to bring us a festive little sleigh for our front stairs, and a wreath for our light post out front. We talked about our meal for Christmas Day, and she gave me advice of where to put this and where to hang that. We talked about the gifts we wanted to wrap for Victoria and gave Dee Dee bites of the frosted sugar cookies I’d made with my my best friend Kate and sister-in-law Rachel the Sunday before. Around 1, she left. “Should we take a pregnancy test?,” I asked Daniel. We had taken one three days prior—5 days before my next period was due to arrive. It was the first month we tried for a baby, so when that test came out negative, we were down but not altogether deflated. I was aware that there was still a chance I could be pregnant, but I sensed that his wasn’t going to be our month.

Until it was.

We followed the directions—I peed in a cup, we dunked the applicator for a count of five Mississippi, and then we waited. We have an agreement that neither of us will peek and that we have to see it together. Three minutes later we walked into the bathroom to check. +YES

We screamed, jumped up and down, cheered, and then cried big, sappy, happy tears. We are so excited for this sweet baby to get here in September and also shocked and unbelievably grateful that we were able to get pregnant so quickly. The past three months have been a nauseous, exhausting rollercoaster ride, but thankfully I’m just now starting to feel human again at 12 weeks. Soon I’ll be sharing a first trimester recap for anyone interested! I’m so excited to share this journey with you <3

Congratulations Andie! I got pregnant around the same time at the end of 2016. (We too were batting a thousand as my husband puts it) Pregnancy was tough but the little one makes everything worth it.

Wow! Good for you! It is so disappointing when you don’t get a positive test. Just know that if someone isn’t happy for you or is quiet about your announcement, it could be because they can’t get pregnant. (We had all of our “ducks in a row” with jobs, a house, marriage, but it didn’t work out for us. That lead to a lot of stress eating and also from hormone injections, etc. I was NOT happy for women who announced their pregnancies so joyfully. It just made me cry and get more depressed). We have since adopted a baby boy (who is now 11) and are now trying to adopt an older child from the foster care system). Your story (I got the audiobook) has been a great inspiration! I wish you both the best!!
