This delicious and easy pork tenderloin with Ah So sauce has a flavor similar to Chinese pork spareribs, with that irresistible contrast of salty, sweet, and sour.

My family has been making some version of Ah-So pork for ages. It’s one of those easy, reliable recipes that everyone loves. All it needs is a side of white rice and you have a fabulous meal in under an hour!

Ah So Pork
Of course Ah-So sauce is the base of the recipe and the star of the show, in all its neon red, sweet-and-sour glory. If you’re not familiar with this sauce, it’s a jarred Chinese BBQ sauce that’s popular in the northeastern United States, made with corn syrup, miso, garlic, etc. It tastes sweet, salty, garlicky, and slightly sour. If you can’t find it in your local grocery store (in the Asian foods section), here’s a link to it on Amazon and Walmart.
To add a little more depth and dimension to our Ah So pork tenderloin, I mix it with soy sauce, toasted sesame oil, brown sugar, ground ginger, and garlic (you can use fresh garlic or garlic powder). *Note: While the sauce tastes best with all of those ingredients, this recipe is incredibly forgiving. So if you’re missing one or two of the ingredients (the Ah-So sauce is a must), you’ll still be able to turn out a meal that tastes great.

Once you’ve whisked up your Ah So sauce mixture, it’s time to marinate the pork. Marinating gives the pork time to really soak up some of that delicious sauce, but if you don’t have time to marinate, fear not! The pork will still turn out great if you simply slather on the sauce and bake it immediately. To marinate: Pour the Ah so mixture into a gallon-sized plastic bag, add your pork tenderloins, press out as much air as possible, and seal the bag. Turn the bag a few times to coat the pork in marinade and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 24 hours, flipping the bag halfway through to make sure the pork marinates evenly.

When you’re ready to cook the Ah So pork, line a baking pan with aluminum foil, remove the tenderloins from the marinade (discard the liquid), place the tenderloins in the center of the pan, and bake at 350 degrees F for 40-50 minutes. Remove from the oven and let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve with any green vegetable you like and a side of rice.
Enjoy!
Pork Tenderloin with Ah So Sauce

Pour the marinade into a gallon-sized plastic bag, add the pork tenderloins, press out as much air as possible and seal the bag. Turn the bag a few times to coat the pork in marinade and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes and up to 24 hours, flipping the bag halfway through to make sure the pork marinates evenly.

I’ve never heard of Ah So sauce before. What is it and where to buy it?
Hi Ash! Sorry, I should have given more info on the sauce! It’s a jarred Chinese BBQ sauce that’s popular in the northeastern United States, made with corn syrup, miso, garlic, etc. It tastes sweet, salty, garlicky, and slightly sour. If you can’t find it in your local grocery store (in the Asian foods section), here’s a link to it on Amazon and Walmart.
I used to buy it in NH stores. Now I’m in the South I order
Off Amazon.
I Rene ver my mom making a pork and rice dish when I was real young (grew up in Massachusetts). She’s gone now, but I do remember she used Ah-So sauce. I thought she just slathered it on as is, on boneless ribs and stuck it in the oven (no clue on temp or how long though). How did you make yours? I’d love to try making my own, but I’m one that NEEDS to follow a recipe. lol
looks Perfect for summer quick lean protein dish! OK… Ah So?… can you share ingredients or recipe…i don’t recall ever seeing that in asian section! THANKS… Hope you had a fun 4th!

Thank you, Leelee!! I should have shared more about the sauce! Here’s more info (I’ve edited the post to include it!): Ah So Sauce is a jarred Chinese BBQ sauce that’s popular in the northeastern United States, made with corn syrup, miso, garlic, etc. It tastes sweet, salty, garlicky, and slightly sour. If you can’t find it in your local grocery store, here’s a link to it on Amazon and Walmart.
OMG, I didn’t think anyone else knew about Ah So Sauce. Growing up always looked forward to pork chop night because we got to have Ah So Sauce on them. MNM. The flavor is un to itself. I have taken it to the grill for grilled pork chops but I think I will bring the pork tenderloin along for the ride now. Thanks for the recipe!!!! HOW GOES THE COLIC?
Yes Lynne you know it!! I’m so glad :) And thanks for asking about Levi! He’s doing so, so well. Night and day!!
Kinda hard to try a recipe that doesn’t tell you how to make the main sauce ingredient. Disappointed in this post.
Hi NL,

If you had bothered to read the description before the recipe in the second/third paragraph it clearly states that it is a jarred sauce that you purchase, not one that you make. How disappointing for you.
Andie
Ah So sauce is a Northeast specialty, you should say this and offer info on how to make your own, since your readers live all over and most cant purchase it in their regular stores. That being said, you obviously disappointed all those who have no idea what you’re suggesting(mixing it with other ingredients). Next time, please be thoughtful when giving out a recipe that you truly don’t know the origins of. Now,can you share what to do for those of us who dont have Ah So sauce in their grocery stores? Thank you.
Hi Lisa,
Sorry, I should have given details on what the sauce is! My mistake. I have not made a homemade version of it myself so I won’t be able to provide a good recipe swap, but here are links to find the product on Amazon and Walmart.
Lisa, Andie has shared the recipe and ALL the info about the Ah-So sauce at least twice here! There is NO NEED to be so nasty to her. YOU SHOULD APOLOGIZE! You are RUDE, RUDE, RUDE!!!!! Andie is so nice and accommodating. You should be ashamed !
You are so rude and nasty! A die shared the information about the Ah-So sauce at least twice. There is no need to be so obnoxious! Be ashamed! And you ought to apologize
It’s a JARRED sauce! You BUY it . It says it in her post. Your comment seemed rather rude. Please read before commenting negatively.
I’m making it now. I miss having this as a kid. Yum
what crawled up your butt! That was very snarky! You can easily purchase AH-SO sauce online!
Grow up Lisa

Don’t listen to these people, a simple Google search of “ah so sauce” would show them the product, people are exhausting
Hi, Andie! It’s been a while since I jumped onto your website, and this recipe looks absolutely delicious–and brilliantly simple. One thing I’m wondering: How would you adapt this to chicken? I guess with bone-in chicken breasts and thighs the time in the oven would be about the same.
And I like the (implicit via photo) idea of pairing it with bok choy. How did you could that? I’ll Google some, but I’m wondering if you have a go-to method of preparing it here. Thanks so much…
Also, try catnip tea for Levi if he still suffers from colic! Really helps to settle their little digestive systems!
Blessings, Susan Mc

I grew up in Queens NY. Every diner had Chinese roast pork on garlic bread with duck sauce. It was my favorite sandwich. I picked up a jar of Ah-so sauce yesterday and plan to use your recipe to recreate this childhood favorite.
Definitely going to try this recipe tonight , I have been using Ah-so sauce for years.
Definitely going to try this out. Thanks for the great recipe.
I made this recipe just the other day. It is absolutely DELICIOUS! It is a perfect recipe and don’t have to make any adjustments. I also shared it with a friend and her and her family loved it.
Would this recipe also work in a slow cooker, aka Crock Pot? Or with it cooking for a long time caramelize the sauce due to the sugars?
I am looking forward to checking out more of your recipes.
The only part of the post I wasn’t sure about is do I mix the ingredients given with the Ah so sauce??? Or separately? Other than that the directions are fine I have Adhd and comprehensive issues so it’s not any fault of yours why I’m asking simplicity lol
This is GREAT! Several months ago I had an absolutely awful “sweet and sour” from a Chinese restaurant and figured I should learn how to make my own. I was thrilled to see that my grocery still carries Ah So (I am an old New Englander.) I stirfried a bunch of vegetables with pineapple chunks, and the pork came out just right. Thanks!
Great work! This post was very informative.

Hello Foodies!
Just made this for dinner tonight and it was a huge hit! The Ah-So sauce really gives the pork a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and tangy flavors, and the sesame oil adds such a nice depth. I didn’t have time to marinate for the full 24 hours, but even with just 30 minutes, the pork was super flavorful. I served it with steamed white rice and some sautéed spinach, and it was a simple, but amazing meal. Definitely going to make this again! Highly recommend!

Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on websites
The combination of salty, sweet, and sour flavors in Ah So sauce is really what makes this pork tenderloin recipe stand out, reminiscent of Chinese pork spareribs, I’m curious, what other sides do you recommend besides white rice?
