Planning a nursery—or designing any room, for that matter—is as fun as it is daunting. I can assure you though, it’s all much MUCH easier when you have a mom with gorgeous taste and very definite opinions on what *works.* In a few months’ time, we were able to turn one of our empty guest bedrooms into my favorite room in the whole house. It’s peaceful and serene, with lots of bright white, ocean blues, and sea glass greens, and yet the room still has a fairly neutral quality to it (without being a wash of grays). I love that it has a sweet, somewhat kid-ish feel, but still blends well with the decor and cool tones of the rest of our house.
First we chose the solid white dresser and hutch (perfect for storing his books, stuffed animals, picture frames, and cute tchotchkes), then the crib, and then the piece that really decided the room’s direction: the rug. My mom and I essentially designed the room around this beautiful turquoise 9-by-12-foot rug she found at a nearby Marshalls. It made our choice of paint color easy: Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams, a tried and true pale blue-green that already covers the walls in my mom’s house and two of my aunts’ homes, as well. I can’t recommend this color enough. It’s soft and calming and always gets compliments.
I found the chair (a rocking, swivel glider) on Wayfair and can happily report that it’s very comfortable and supposedly it’s not too hard to get stains out of the cream-colored fabric. The blankets and bedding are all from Pottery Barn.
Choosing art was tough—there are so many cute nursery prints out there! We ultimately went with 4 Rifle Paper Co. prints and 2 larger prints from Minted. I think they’re all adorable, but especially “Mr. Pug,” because it reminds us of our sweet Dee Dee.
I can’t wait to bring our sweet little boy home to this room!

So cute! We painted our nursery the same color a few years ago and it ha been perfect for our son and now our baby girl!
It looks gorgeous! Very nice work. I, too, love Sea Salt and have it in my dining room and master bath.
It’s gorgeous, congratulations!
What a beautiful nursery! I love the various shades of blue combined with neutral furniture.
It’s perfect!
Very sweet
Love all the decorations and fine details.
Blessings for a safe delivery, happy and healthy baby.
Blessings to the new parents.
So much fun, I love to just sit in there and play with the tiny little things,it all looks so small until you bring the baby home, but they grow up so quickly you will find it hard to leave the room then too . It will always be your favorite.
It’s beautiful! I love the chair, it looks perfect for rocking your little son. Something I found(quite by accident!) is that baby wipes are excellent at removing stains from fabric. My daughter has an off white sofa and a very active two year old and baby wipes have worked wonders at removing all kinds of stains.
Very beautiful! Where is the changing table though?
Oh good question! I have two–one is in my bedroom (with the bassinet) and the other is downstairs in our family room!
Andrea, you and Maryellen have out done yourselves. This room is stunning. Best of luck and Love on your delivery. I hope it is fast and easy for you…xoxoxoxNancy
Love your nursery! Don’t know about upholstery but blue DAWN is wonderful for clothing stains. Might try on this fabric if necessary. Just drop on clothing stain. Wait a couple of hours, then wash with whatever soap you use. Line dry to make sure stain is out. Pressing or heat sets the stain if not out yet. Works wonders…….Wishing you an easy, uneventful delivery and a happy, healthy baby boy! ❤️ af
Adorable. peaceful room. I have always loved your Mom’s decorative talent. I think she missed her calling to a career in decorating. Enjoy your room and your baby boy. xo Linda
That is so kind Linda! She really is amazingly talented!
Where did you get the rug?
Found it at Marshalls!
Would also love to know the brand of the rug if you happen to know!
Dreamy! Ready for your sweet little one! Congratulations!
Oh my goodness, that is adorable. Where ever did you find the adorable animals on the top of the bookcase?
Your little boy’s room is gorgeous and perfect! I’m a long time follower and am so happy for you and Daniel as you await your new bundle! I’m currently 35 weeks pregnant with our baby girl and you reminded me we still need a lamp for her room! Where did you get the white lamp (that reminds me of a pineapple lol) in the first picture?
Love it! Your little boy’s room looks absolutely perfect! And I’m happy to see your color selection, just chose that for my office which is getting painted as we speak. And thanks for the mention of Marshall’s for area rugs, they are so expensive and I’ve been looking for some for our new home.
Where did you get the white art frames from?
Such a beautiful room! Very calming and relaxing, yet bright. Best of luck with your new baby boy and blessings to all!
Used the same color in our baby girls nursery! Wasnt into the while pink overload thing!
Beautiful nursery. I’m in love with that rug! Do you happen to know the brand?
